Prostate brachytherapy is a minimal invasive method of prostate cancer treatment and refers to the placement of radioactive sources (“seeds”) into the prostate gland. It is well known that prostate cancer cells are sensitive to radiation and the advantage of brachytherapy is that it can deliver very high doses while simultaneously spares normal surrounding tissues or organs (internal radiation). It ιs applied as monotherapy (treatment in one session) in low-risk patients or combined with external radiation in intermediate and high-risk patients.
